A man has been taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries after being hit by a car in Newcastle's West End.
Emergency services were called after a Mercedes knocked down a man on Westgate Road in Newcastle at around 6.20pm on Monday.
It was reported that a silver Mercedes was travelling east along the road when, for reasons to be established, it collided with the pedestrian close to the bus stop at the junction with Wingrove Avenue.

The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries. The driver remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
Sergeant Kevin Postings, of Northumbria Police, said: “A full and thorough investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding this collision, which resulted in a man being taken to hospital.
“The collision happened in a busy area and we are now asking anybody who witnessed it to get in touch. Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could be crucial to our enquiries.
“We also want to hear from anybody who believes they saw a silver Mercedes C Class travelling in the area at the time, as well as anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist the ongoing investigation.”
