Man suffered broken jaw in unprovoked attack outside kebab shop

Detectives at Nottinghamshire Police analysed CCTV footage at multiple venues to bring an offender to justice following a violent assault. The victim suffered a broken jaw after being punched in the face repeatedly during the attack in the early hours of Sunday, July 4, outside a takeaway in High Street, Warsop.

He had been in the town to watch an England football match in a pub and was outside a kebab shop when the attack took place. When he was interviewed by officers, the victim could only remember being picked up from the floor by a girl and his face covered in blood.

The police were able to put a case together and uncover what happened by using CCTV footage from several venues across the town centre, in addition to vehicle records and comparing CCTV stills with social media images of suspects.

Daniel Ball, aged 35, of Morven Terrace, Warsop, was captured on camera launching the assault. Ball appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, October 10, where he was given a 16-month jail sentence suspended for 24 months.

He was also ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 compensation after being convicted of grievous bodily harm without intent. Ball had punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the floor, before hitting him another ten times as he lay on the pavement.

The victim did not respond or fight back at any point. Detective Constable Nathan Bingham, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a nasty attack which left a man with a broken jaw.

"Although the victim could not remember much about the incident, officers were able to trace the offender by analysing footage from the town centre. It once again shows the value of CCTV in bringing offenders to justice and I am pleased Ball has now been dealt with by the courts.

“This sort of behaviour is never acceptable, and we will always deal robustly with those who commit violent offences on our streets.”
