A major police hunt is underway to find a man who reportedly stabbed his wife to death before fleeing with his six-year-old daughter on a plane.
Micaela Juarez Ocolt, a "hardworking" and beloved mother, was allegedly stabbed to death by her own husband, and was found dead at her workplace in a mall on South Midvale Boulevard, Madison, Wisconsin on April 24.
Her husband, Jose Duenas-Quinonez, 37, and his six-year-old daughter, Avril Duenas-Juarez, have reportedly fled to Mexico, leaving the FBI in hot pursuit.
According to reports, the couple had a violent argument the night before her tragic death.
Micaela's adult son revealed that his mother's spouse had been showing increased levels of jealousy and controlling behaviour for the past month.
Despite leaving the country over 24 hours before the police were alerted about the homicide, the authorities are working tirelessly with the FBI to apprehend the fugitive suspect.
An Amber Alert was almost issued when the duo's departure was discovered.
A statement from the Madison Police Department read: "Jose Duenas-Quinonez has been identified as the suspect in this case.
"He and his daughter left the country more than 24 hours before police were contacted about the homicide.
"We were in the process of getting an Amber Alert issued when we learned of their departure.
"MPD continues to work with the FBI on this case."
As the investigation continues, one of the victim's sons has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her funeral and farewell.
The family's goal was set at $15,000, and the fundraiser has already collected over $13,000 (10,300).
Alfredo, the son of Micaela Juarez Ocolt, wrote: "My mother Micaela, 43, was tragically taken from us over the weekend.
"She was a hard-working woman in all aspects and an individual that everyone loved.
"Her kindness was one of a kind and everyone felt it, raising four kids while working on herself financially and physically, being healthy was one of her priorities.
"She’s a woman I looked up to, took the roles of both mother and father and she couldn’t have done a better job.
"I just wish she was still here to repay everything she has done for us as a mother and a best friend.
"I am reaching out to the community for help. We are hoping to give her a nice funeral and a farewell. Anything helps and I appreciate everyone in advance."
