BURI RAM: A 34-year-old man stabbed his mother, inflicting serious wounds, before taking his own life with a knife at their house in Satuk district on Wednesday night, police said.
Police were called to the house in tambon Sanam around 9.30pm.
Pol Col Kriangsak Kithaisong, a deputy investigation chief at Satuk, said that when they arrived the house was in darkness.
They cautiously entered the house and found a man identified later as Thepthai Sai-ngam, 34, lying dead with stab wounds in a bedroom. There was pooled blood around the body and blood spatters on the floor.
His mother Phatsinee Khemsapthada, 66, had already been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment of knife wounds to her neck and head.
A neighbour, Wichit Harnprakhon, 42, told police that Thepthai and his mother lived together in the house. Shortly after 9pm on Wednesday he saw Ms Phatsinee running from the house, her blood-stained hands covering her neck and seeking help.
He and other people helped stop the bleeding and called a rescue team. She was rushed to Satuk Hospital, about two kilometres away.
Police investigators said they found papers suggesting a failed stock investment at the scene, so Thepthai may have been reacting to stress. It was not known why he attacked his mother. She would be questioned when she was well enough.
An informed source said the dead man was the nephew of a retired Buri Ram politician.
