Man stabbed outside Darwin Beachfront Hotel treated for punctured lung

A man has been stabbed outside a Darwin pub and left with a punctured lung following "a large disturbance" involving "around 10 people".

NT Police Watch Commander Sean Patterson told ABC Radio Darwin at about 7:15pm on Thursday evening a man was removed from the Beachfront Hotel in Nightcliff, before the incident occurred "out on the road".

"He became involved with another male and a physical altercation occurred, during which the male who had been kicked out was stabbed with an unknown kind of edged weapon to the chest," he said.

Watch Commander Patterson said the offender then fled the scene.

"Police and St John Ambulance arrived and the victim was taken to hospital, where he was found to have a punctured lung," he said.

The matter is being investigated by the NT Police criminal investigation branch.

The incident follows two fatal stabbings in Darwin since March and comes against a backdrop of what police say is a growing number of knife-related incidents in the Top End.
