Man stabbed his wife 77 times over fears she would leave him

  • Robert Alexander, 66, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years for the murder of his wife, Christina Alexander.
  • Alexander stabbed the 60-year-old nurse 77 times, strangled her, and struck her with a dog food can at their home in Tamworth in June 2025.
  • Alexander was unanimously convicted at Stafford Crown Court following a 14-day trial, despite claiming he had no memory of the incident.
  • Judge Avik Mukherjee noted that Alexander intended to kill his wife because she planned to leave him, amidst a context of coercive and controlling behaviour.
  • The judge warned Alexander that there is no guarantee he will be released when his minimum term ends or at any point in the future.
