A man was killed in the South Shore neighborhood, and a woman was wounded in West Lawn in two separate attacks within a half hour of each other Wednesday afternoon.
The man was shot in the chest near a sidewalk around 12:40 p.m. in the 1600 block of East 68th Street, Chicago police said.
Paramedics took him to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
He was around 30 years old, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said.
About 30 minutes later, an 18-year-old woman was shot in her leg while crossing the street in the 3600 block of West 59th Street, on the border of West Elsdon and West Lawn, police said. She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and was reported in good condition.
Police reported no arrests.
