Man seriously injured after being attacked in front of children in alleged Perth road rage incident

A 21-year-old man is in hospital after being stabbed multiple times in what police say was a "savage and unprovoked" road rage attack in view of children in Perth's south.

Police say the man was driving a black Suzuki Swift hatchback along a suburban street in Medina about 6:50pm on Wednesday when the driver in a Mitsubishi Triton ute behind him allegedly began behaving aggressively.

Detective Senior Sergeant Andy Elliot said the man driving the hatchback pulled over to signal the driver of the ute behind him to pass, which they did.

But police allege the ute then did a U-turn and drove back to ram the hatchback.

"A verbal altercation ensued, and the victim was subsequently assaulted by the driver of the Mitsubishi Triton ute," Senior Sergeant Elliot said.

"The victim sustained several stab wounds and bruising, and he was later conveyed to the Royal Perth Hospital where he's received treatment for his injuries.

"This was a savage an unprovoked attack and this kind of activity is completely unacceptable in our community. And we don't accept violence of this nature."

'Extremely concerning' children witnessed the attack

Senior Sergeant Elliot said it was "extremely concerning" there were children inside the ute.

"It's extremely concerning that you would engage in this behaviour, first of all, but to have children witness this … you don't want these behaviours to be generational and passed on," he said.

"People have the right to be feel safe and shouldn't be subjected to this trauma."

On Thursday, a 29-year-old man from Armadale was charged with committing an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm, being armed in a way to cause fear, reckless driving and having no authority to drive.

He will appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court on Friday.

Senior Sergeant Elliot said they had also seized both cars for forensic examination.

He said the victim had not yet been able to give a full account to police due to his injuries but reiterated it appeared to have been completely unprovoked.

"Nothing that I have says it provoked this sort of behaviour, absolutely not. And its escalated unnecessarily to a very savage and unprovoked assault," he said.

Police are asking for anyone in the area who may have witnessed the assault or has dash cam or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
