A man was struck by a bolt of lightning while sitting on his sofa playing his PlayStation.
Aidan Rowan, 33, was sitting on his couch when he heard a loud crack followed by a heavy feeling in his body.
The 33-year-old immediately keeled over and has been left with scars after the freak event.
Coincidentally, he had been playing Stray, where you control a lost cat during a thunderstorm, when the lightning bolt tore through his Oxfordshire home.
Aidan's husband Aaron, 32, leapt to his aid and rushed him to hospital at around 10.30pm last Monday.
He was kept under supervision for several hours before being discharged with some medication to soothe the pain.
"There was a very loud crack of thunder and I sort of felt a very heavy sensation all over and then a searing heat in my right arm where there are now burns," Aidan told the Metro.
"It took about a minute to come back to my senses, I felt very, very confused.
"I went upstairs and asked my husband for a wet towel as I didn’t know what had happened but my arm was burning.
“He asked what that smell was and it was me burning.
"He then called his parents to take me to the hospital. He said he could see my arm blistering as he watched."
Aidan recalled getting to the reception when his husband explained something had happened.
When Aaron said it may have been a lightning strike, Aidan said everyone turned to look at him.
He was then rushed through to an assessment room where medics said lightning did appear to be the culprit.
Nine doctors from different departments came to examine him and he was put on a heart monitor and underwent blood tests.
He told how his heart rate was "erratic" at first and he could not go home for a few hours until it was level.
Aidan was left with several scars on his left arm and a ‘starburst’-shaped burn on his right hand following the incident.
But he stressed it could have been much worse.
Doctors believe the lightning "bounced off the water and through the window" of Aidan's home, he said.
They speculated this was as a result of the hot weather which had made the ground hard, causing the rainwater to sit on top.
"We just couldn’t really process it at the time. After a few days it started to mentally affect me, realising that I could have died," Aidan added.
He told how his friends shared their concerns, especially in the first few days after his ordeal.
But now friends have seen he is okay, jokes have surfaced around Thor, the God of Thunder who can summon lightning.
Aidan further joked how that was the last time he would play "a cute cat game during a thunderstorm."
