A man says a tin of beans and sausages 'exploded' and hurt his hand when he pulled the ring to open them, with the beans bubbling up and releasing a rancid smell. Ken Morriss 70, bought the Tesco beans in Prestatyn, Denbighshire. The supermarket has launched an investigation.
Ken said: “I pulled the ring pull and the lid blew open. It gave me one hell of a shock as the lid really did blow up fast, hitting the back of my fingers. The smell was disgusting and my hand was throbbing like a good ‘un.”
Exploding cans can be caused by a build-up of bacterial gas inside the sealed container, reports NorthWalesLive. Acid in foods can also react with the metal in the containers creating a build-up of gas.
