A man took to social media after his street was plagued by the sound of an alarm for "15 hours".
The cause was believed to be a faulty alarm attached to an empty house in Sutton Leach, St Helens. In search of a solution to the irritating noise, ideas such as "smashing the alarm off the wall" were though of.
In a Facebook post, the man said: "Advice here please. We live in Sutton Leach and an alarm has been going off incessantly for over 15 hours, in an empty house. That has been sold, but the new occupier hasn't moved in yet and are unknown. Short of smashing it off the wall. What do we do to stop this terrible very loud noise?"

Some people in the comments suggested that an intruder may have set the alarm off, however this was dispelled. The estate agents in charge of the property were eventually reached, before the alarm eventually was silenced. The man added: "Good news. The alarm has stopped Hallelujah. Either my wife or someone close by prompting has worked."
