Mountain rescue teams in Northumberland have confirmed that the body of a man has tragically been found during their search for a missing walker.
In the early hours of last Thursday morning (August 11), Northumbria Police called on the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue team to help them search for a walker who had failed to turn up at their accommodation in Bellingham the night before. The man in his 60s had intended to walk the Pennine Way from Housesteads to Bellingham.
North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team also helped with the efforts which saw teams spend seven hours searching for the missing man on foot and in vehicles along linear routes including the Pennine Way.

But now Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue has confirmed that one of the search groups found a body believed to be that of the missing walker in an area of Wark Forest just off the Pennine Way.
A statement from Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue said: "A difficult incident for all our volunteers and a terribly sad outcome to what should have been a pleasant day’s walk along the Pennine Way. Our thoughts are with the walker’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."
