The body of a man in his 40s was recovered from a river in Co Leitrim on Sunday.
The man had been reported missing by friends on Sunday afternoon in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Gardai responded to reports that the man had entered the water and subsequently carried out searches.
He was later recovered from the River Shannon that evening.
His remains have been taken to the mortuary at Sligo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Gardai say they are treating the man's death as a tragic accident.
They will also prepare a file for the Coroner on the incident.
A Garda spokesperson said: "The body of a man in his late 40s was recovered by Garda in Carrick on Shannon following a search on the River Shannon on Sunday, February 13, 2022.
"The man had been reported missing by friends on Sunday afternoon and a search operation commenced.
"Gardaí are treating the man’s death as a tragic accident. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Sligo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
"A file will be prepared for the Coroner."
