A man has been reduced to tears on BBC Breakfast after admitting that he cannot afford to eat this Christmas. Roy Herring says he will be cutting down on all festivities this year due to the cost of living crisis.
Roy made an appearance on the morning show with his wife, Joan Herring, on Monday, December 19. The couple revealed that they will not be celebrating Christmas this year due to spiralling costs, reports MyLondon.
The pair say they are currently struggling to live on £228 per week, meaning that their usual holiday traditions will need to be put on hold. Joan revealed that she used to enjoy putting lights up outside, but won't be able to afford the electricity to do so this winter.
The reporter then asked the couple what they were giving up this Christmas. Roy said: "Everything. Food. Clothing. Cost of living - can't afford it."
Roy emotionally added: "I cannot live no more, do you understand me. It's upsetting and sometimes I sit down here when I'm on my own, and Joan's in bed, and I will just sit there and cry and think 'is it worth it?'"
The BBC also spoke to neighbours Shannon and Tom, who decided they won't buy presents for each other this year. The pair instead were looking to turn their focus on buying some presents for their children.
Shannon said: "Just trying to dial back on everything really, just to make sure we stay afloat."
