A man was hospitalised after being punched to the face and knocked to the floor in an assault at a Metrolink tram stop. The disturbance was reported to police on July 2 last year, after an altercation between two men ensued at the Deansgate-Castlefield station.
As a third male tried to intervene, he was then punched in the face, knocked to the floor and taken to hospital for treatment. Callum Hinds, 26, was arrested at the scene by transport officers.
He was later charged with grievous bodily harm (section 20) assault and was remanded in custody. He plead guilty to the offence in court and was bailed to attend court for sentencing.
However, Greater Manchester Police said that he failed to attend the sentencing. Hinds, of no fixed abode, was later located and remanded in custody again.
On Tuesday (November 22) he was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court to 11 months' imprisonment. Following the sentencing, police said anti-social behaviour and crime 'will not be tolerated' on the region's transport network.
GMP's City Centre division shared the court result on Wednesday, writing: "On 2nd July 2021 #GMPTransportUnit officers responded to a report of a disturbance at Deansgate - Castlefield tram stop. During an altercation between two males, a third male tried to intervene and was punched in the face, knocked to the floor and required hospital treatment.
"Callum Hinds (20/08/1996) of No Fixed Abode was arrested at the scene and was later charged with Grevious Bodily Harm (Section 20) Assault and remanded in custody. At court he pled guilty and was bailed to attend again at a later date for sentencing and then failed to attend.
"He was later located and arrested and remanded in custody and yesterday Tuesday 22nd November 2022 was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Crown Court to 11 months' imprisonment. Anti-social behaviour and crime will not be tolerated on the transport network."
