A man punched a firefighter in the head and hurled abuse at him as he tried to tackle a blaze in Nottinghamshire. In December 2021, firefighters attended a fire at the back of an address on Northfield Way, Retford, where a settee was a blaze close to a house.
The occupant, Mark Armstrong, wouldn’t cooperate with the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service crew members and acted in an "aggressive and confrontational manner" towards them as they tried to get him to see sense.
The 37-year-old continued to be abusive towards the firefighters whilst they were putting the fire out. The man threw a wooden gate at them which hit a firefighter’s hands as he raised them to protect himself.
