A man poured alcohol over his girlfriend and spat on her after an argument at her home.
The couple had been out drinking before violence flared, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week.
Jonathan McGettigan, 23, admitted assaulting the woman at a flat in Glencleland Road, Craigneuk, on June 19, 2021.
Alan McDonald, prosecuting, said that, despite being attacked, the woman managed to make a 999 call that lasted 17 minutes.
Police officers were sent out and McGettigan was arrested at the scene.
Mr McDonald told the court: "The couple had been in a relationship for seven months with no previous incidents of a domestic nature.
"During the afternoon of June 19 they had been socialising and drinking.
"On their return to her flat in Glencleland Road, an argument started and the accused began shouting and swearing at Ms Yeo and calling her names.
"He pushed her, causing her to fall, then threw alcohol over her and struck her on the head.
"He seized her by the throat, tried to take her mobile phone, spat on her head and pinned her to the ground."
Ms Yeo suffered bruising to her arm and a scratch to the side of her head.
Defence agent Stephen McQuillan said McGettigan, formerly of Glasgow and now living in Coatbridge, accepted his behaviour had been "upsetting" for his then girlfriend.
The solicitor added: "He has had no contact with her since this incident."
Sheriff Liam Murphy deferred sentence until August for background reports and will also consider imposing a non-harassment order.
