A man has been left with a serious head injury after a 'verbal altercation' with a group of golfers.
Cops raced to Cochrane Castle Golf Course, in Johnstone, at around 5.55pm on Sunday, May 1, after being alerted to an assault.
A 49-year-old man was rushed to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment to a serious head injury.
Police launched a probe and have now established that the man had been involved in a 'verbal altercation with a group of golfers'.
It's understood the argument took place near to the 16th green and 17th tee of the course.
Anyone with information is now being urged to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Jason Buxton, of Paisley CID, said: "A man has been seriously injured and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible.
"Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the surrounding area since this incident.
"We believe the area would have been quite busy with golfers and would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.
"If you were in the area at the time, please think back and get in touch with us if you have any information which may be able to assist our investigation."
