The driver then attempted to make a quick getaway on foot, but was chased by officers and then arrested.

Pictures from the scene show an ambulance in attendance, as well as three police vehicles.

The driver remains in custody.

More details about the incident are not known.

Sharing the incident to Twitter this afternoon, GMP's Stretford branch said: "Male detained after a fail to stop for police pursuit ended at the Quadrant, Stretford.

"The vehicle made off from police in Urmston to which the vehicle crashed with the driver running off.

"A short foot chase secured the arrest."

Social media users responded saying they had seen the car 'whizzing' down a road in Urmston shortly before the crash.
