Man killed in motorcycle crash in Darwin rural area suburb of Bees Creek

A man has been killed in a motorcycle crash in Darwin's rural area overnight.

The single vehicle crash happened on the Stuart Highway near Gulnare Road, in Bees Creek, about 6.45pm Thursday, Northern Territory Police have said.

Emergency services including police and St John Ambulance attended, but the male motorcycle driver died at the scene.

Police have not yet identified the man but believe he is aged in his 50s.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Linder said police were investigating the incident.

"The investigation remains ongoing to confirm the identity of the deceased rider and determine the cause of the crash," he said.

He also said a witness had been interviewed.

A road closure and traffic diversions were in place for several hours last night as Major Crash investigators examined the scene.

The road was reopened this morning.
