A man has died and three other people injured in a car crash in a remote part of Central Australia, NT Police has reported.

Police received reports of a car rollover on the Sandover Highway near the community of Ampilatwatja — about 300 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs — at about 10.30pm yesterday.

Four adult men were in the car, and one of them died at the scene, police said in a statement.

Detectives from the Major Crash Unit are investigating the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
