Man jailed for ‘cowardly’ Manchester Airport assault on two female police officers

  • Mohammed Fahir Amaaz , 21, has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after being convicted of assaulting two female police officers at Manchester Airport in July 2024.
  • Amaaz broke Pc Lydia Ward's nose and caused actual bodily harm during the incident, which gained significant public attention, and also assaulted Pc Ellie Cook, knocking her to the ground.
  • Now a police sergeant, Lydia Ward delivered a powerful victim personal statement in court, addressing Amaaz directly via videolink and branding his actions as “cowardly” for attacking a smaller female officer.
  • Sgt Ward criticised Amaaz for playing the victim and showing no remorse, stating that he allowed the public to sympathise with him despite her being the injured party and suffering online abuse.
  • Amaaz was also found guilty of an earlier assault on a member of the public at a Starbucks café, which prompted the initial police response to the airport where the subsequent assaults occurred.
