A woman has told a Queensland jury her boyfriend was kneeling and wounded when another man pointed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger.
"I heard an empty sound, I saw the trigger being pulled and there was a click," Clarice Laura Warren testified on Wednesday during the first day of the Brisbane Supreme Court trial of Brendyn Wade Clark on a charge of attempted murder.
Prosecutor David Finch told the jury Clark shot Ms Warren's then boyfriend, Adrian Steven William Hing, five times at 7am on June 22 in 2019 at Sunnybank Hills in Brisbane's outer south.
Clark has admitted a charge relating to shooting Ms Warren twice during the same incident and has pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Hing.
His co-defendant at trial, Mark Troy Duce, faced one count of accessory after the fact to attempted murder and one of accessory to unlawfully wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Duce was accused of driving Clark three hours north out of Brisbane and hiring a hotel room for him while knowing he had been involved in a shooting.
Mr Finch said Clark was upset about Ms Warren's new relationship with Mr Hing and opened fire when the couple attended his home to confront him about Mr Hing's expensive mountain bike being stolen and cut in half.
Mr Finch said Clark had to manually work the bolt of his sawn-off .22 calibre rifle in order to fire each shot, including an unsuccessful attempt to shoot at Mr Hing at close range while he was on his knees.
"The evidence reveals Clark had more in mind than to cause grievous bodily harm. He had the intention to bring about death," Mr Finch said.
Ms Warren testified that her new relationship with Mr Hing had ended his relationship with one of Clark's friends.
Clark and the other woman had retaliated by stealing Hing's bike at 4am two days before the shooting and Ms Warren said she was the first to be shot.
"I heard a bang. I saw Brendyn on (his) front porch. My foot was bent in a strange way. I think I just went into complete shock and started screaming," Ms Warren said.
Ms Warren said Clark continued shooting while walking down his front stairs while she and Mr Hing retreated to a nearby bus stop shelter.
They both tried to strike Clark, who then responded by hitting them with his firearm and shooting Ms Warren in the inner thigh.
Mr Hing suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, spine, shoulder, hand and bowels and Ms Warren said Clark only retreated when Hing's pit bull Archer "charged" at him and he realised he was out of ammunition.
Under cross examination from Clark's barrister, Bernard Reilly, Ms Warren said Mr Hing, Clark and herself used methamphetamine at the time.
Ms Warren said Clark before the shooting seemed "very drug affected and frantic".
Ms Warren conceded she had a knife in her backpack and Mr Hing wore a "metal knuckleduster" when they walked to Clark's residence and the she did not tell police Clark had aimed his firearm at Mr Hing's head.
