A man has been killed in a daylight stabbing attack in Broken Hill with local police calling on the community to provide any information they may have.
Police were called to a Burke Street property around 1pm following reports of an altercation between two men.
On arrival, officers found a man believed to be in his 40s dead on the ground with a laceration to his neck.
Inspector Chris Wallace said police had established a crime scene with specialist forensic police on route to the town.
"If that person … had anything to do with what's happened here today they're encouraged to come into the Broken Hill Police Station and hand themselves in."
Public encouraged to come forward
Inspector Wallace said NSW Ambulance had initially responded to the incident and located the victim but he was unresponsive.
He said police had yet to identify the victim and where they resided, and it was not yet known whether the two men knew each other.
"If you know who this person is or may have been involved in an altercation with this man in this street we'd like you to come forward and tell us.
"If you've got any information contact Broken Hill police or contact Crime Stoppers."
He said the community should not be concerned about the individual while police continued their investigation into the matter.
"Obviously something quite violent has taken place here today," Inspector Wallace said.
"I don't think it's a matter where the community as a whole should be jumping out of their skin terrified with a person on the loose like this.
"But if anyone's got any information they need to come forward and tell us, and tell us sooner rather than later."
