Man in 40s attacked by three men on 'quiet' street

A man was taken to hospital after being assaulted by three men near a church.

Emergency services were seen on Cherry Lane in Walton for several hours on Wednesday, June 21 where a police cordon was in place. The cordon was seen around St Aiden's parish church and the neighbouring church hall.

One police vehicle was seen with officers in the area. The ECHO believes the cordon was in place from around 10am until around 3pm.

One woman said it was "unusual" to see police on the quiet street and she was worried a child had been hurt, but added police weren't giving any information away.

People in the area were concerned someone was assaulted, adding the cordon was in place just after school time. Merseyside Police confirmed they were in the area following reports of an assault this morning.

The force said that at around 10.20am officers received a report that three men assaulted a man in his 40s on Lilly Grove. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries which are not life threatening.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or captured the assault on dashcam or CCTV is asked to contact police by DM via their social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 23000544891.
