A man has been taken to hospital after suffering burns in a house fire that broke out at Morpeth.
Emergency services were called to Princess Street just before 3.30pm on Sunday where a two-storey residential building caught alight.
Firefighting crews arrived to find smoke billowing from the roof and all sides of the structure.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said crews began defensive firefighting from the outside due to the ferocity of the blaze and to prevent the flames spreading to neighbouring properties.
Firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire about 4.30pm.
Two men were assessed at the scene.
One of the men, who paramedics said was aged in his 40s, was treated for minor burns and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
The other man declined treatment and transportation to hospital.
