Police have launched a probe into the incident and are appealing for information. In particular they would like to speak to a Good Samaritan at the scene. The man helped the pedestrian before officers arrived.

Anyone with dash cam footage that could help with the investigation is also urged to come forward.

DC Lisa McMullen said : “We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. In particular, if anyone has a dash cam, please check your footage as you may have captured something that could assist our investigation. We are also keen to trace a man who came to the assistance of the injured pedestrian but left before officers were at the scene. We would like him to get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0309 of August 21."
