Man held for growing ganja plants in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vilappilsala police arrested a person for growing ganja plants at his house near Chowalloor on Thursday.

The arrested has been identified as Ranjith (38) of Sangeethalayam near Kongappalliyil at Vilappilsala. A case was registered against him under section 20 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The accused is the son-in-law of SC Morcha district president Vilappil Santhosh. Police seized 18 ganja plants of height 1.5ft from his house.

Ranjith’s wife Sangeetha said they were not aware that they were ganja plants.

“We got some vegetable seeds from one Manikantan, who is a friend of Ranjith, nearly a month ago. He told us that the seeds were from a sunflower plant. There was an issue between my husband and Manikantan and he was taking revenge on it. It was when police came to our house that we came to know that it was ganja plants,” said Sangeetha.

He was remanded in custody after being produced before a court.
