A man who went to visit his family's grave but found it left covered in cut grass after workers had been strimming in the area says he felt "betrayed" after having to clean it. Paul Gauci, 75, had been visiting his family's grave at Western Cemetery in Ely, Cardiff, last week, but when he arrived he says it was "covered in bales of straw."
“It was absolutely disgusting. It felt like being betrayed. I’ve had to clean them every time but never as bad as this,” he said. Paul says that he has had to clean the grave when he has visited a number of times previously, but that it was "never as bad as this."
He said that two or three workers had been cutting the grass at the cemetery with petrol strimmers and that, when he asked them why the graves had been left covered in the cut grass, said he was told that they leave it there for compost.
