Police are hunting for a gunman who shot a young victim on a residential street in south-east London.
Armed officers were scrambled to Ogilby Street, Woolwich, at 10.25pm on Monday.
They could not find the victim at the scene but then traced him to a hospital where he was being treated for a serious gunshot wound. The man in his 20s remains in hospital in a serious condition with life-changing injuries.
There have been no arrests and forensics officers have been on the scene recovering bullet casings and scouring for clues. Meanwhile detectives will trawl through CCTV footage from around crime scene area next to Granby House.
Fingertip searches by specialist officers will also be carried out.
Detective Constable Nick Fletcher of Specialist Crime Trident, who is leading the investigation, said: “The victim of this shooting remains seriously ill and we are doing everything we can to find the person or people responsible for this attack.“Anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has information that could assist police, is asked to get in contact immediately. If you do not feel confident speaking to a police officer, you can speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers.
“Finding those who carry and use firearms is one of our top priorities in order to protect our communities from serious violence and harm.”
