Man grieving for 51-year-old wife claims care she received at Queen's Medical Centre was 'shocking'

A Bulwell man whose wife has died aged 51 has criticised the care he says she received at the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC). Michael Hargreaves says he has lost his "best friend", who was a mother of three and a grandmother of one, with her death to be examined in an inquest.

Diane Hargreaves passed away on Friday (May 12) after collapsing at her family home on Naomi Crescent. Two weeks before, Mrs Hargreaves had been admitted on to a ward at the QMC after ringing 111 about the "agony" she was in because of a split hernia.

The growth had also caused a blockage, meaning that Mrs Hargreaves was unable to use the toilet, and the hernia was located on the front of her stomach. This first hospital visit lasted for three days, but Mr Hargreaves says staff felt an operation on the hernia would be "too risky."
