Man glues himself to table in Natwest after being unable to access bank account

A man glued his hand to a table in a NatWest after a dispute over being unable to access his bank account. The anonymous businessman claims he needs the money inside the locked account to pay his 40 staff members, reports Grimsby Live.

The incident occurred earlier this week in Grimsby, when the frustrated figure decided to take drastic action to make himself heard. The businessman says he has been trying to withdraw money from the account but has been told it is 'non-operational' and that no credit or debits can be made.

When trying to ask NatWest about the account, he says he is given the same statement whether that be in a letter or over the phone. The statement read: "We refer to your recent enquiry to withdraw funds from your account and write to inform you that we are unable to procced with your request at this time.

"Your account is currently non-operational and no credits or debits can be processed. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The Bank is unable to further comment at this time, however we will revert to you as soon as we are able."

The businessman was sick of this response and on November 17 decided to attend NatWest's Victoria Street branch to form a unique protest. After gluing his hand to a table in the premises, he was then removed in a joint effort from the police and bank staff.

Since the dramatic incident, the man has spoken out over his worries for his staff as he may be now unable to pay their wages due to still being unable to access the account. He said "I've been trying to find out what's going on with this bank account, but every time I ask for an explanation they just tell me the same thing and nobody can seem to give me the answer behind it all.

"I had no idea what to do and in the end I just decided I had to do something quite drastic. I've rung different teams and spoken to people in the branch, but as soon as they look into it I get told the same thing every time.

"I think there's probably something more going on behind the scenes if I'm honest and I wouldn't mind if I was told a bit more about what was happening. Nobody can tell me why it's happened, how long the bank account will be gone for or whether or not I'll be able to access it again.

"I've got a huge amount of staff to pay tomorrow (Friday, 18 November) and I've got no way of paying them, what am I meant to tell them? I've got no time to sort this and 40 people are relying on these wages.

"One woman needs this money to feed her child, it's not fair. Things are hard for everyone at the minute and things like this don't help in the slightest.

"I did this to help them and try to get them their wages, it's not about me at all."

In relation to the incident at NatWest, Humberside Police said: "Officers were in attendance at an incident at a premises on Victoria Street, Grimsby, after we were called at around 2.30pm today (Thursday 17 November). Officers attended and the situation came to a safe conclusion at around 4.15pm."

Grimsby Live have contacted NatWest for further comment on on the incident.
