A man has been jailed for life after a drive-by shooting killed one and left another seriously injured in Newham.
Otas Sarkus, 20, was shot on August 18, 2021 in Raymond Road near Upton Park Station.
Mr Sarkus was shot twice in the eye and died soon after, while another man, aged 18, was shot in the back but survived his injuries.
This week, Deon Brisport, 30, of Lauriston Road, E9 was jailed for 32 years for murder and 25 years for attempted murder. His sentence will run concurrently.
Brisport and Dean Adams, 32, of Stevenage Road E6 were found guilty following a trial at the Old Bailey on December 15, 2022.
Adams will be sentenced at a later date which is yet to be set.
Detective Inspector Louise Caveen, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This was a premeditated attack with sophisticated preparation and planning. It had all the hallmarks of professional criminal activity.
“The victim and his friends did nothing to provoke this attack and it is possible they were not the intended targets, although the motive of Brisport is still not known.
“My thoughts are with the family of Otas who have suffered the most terrible loss.”
At the time of the incident, Mr Sarkus had been standing with a group of friends when a white Volvo drove towards them, pulled up alongside, whereby multiple shots were fired from the vehicle.
Following the incident, the court was told the Volvo was found half a mile away from the scene while DNA found on a jacket in the car was matched to Adams.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command found out that the car had been given a parking ticket on the morning of the shooting, which confirmed where it had been parked.
The pair were seen arriving together to collect it while three pay as you go phones discovered by officers, were found to have been used for Brisport and Adams to communicate to each other and to book taxis to leave the scene after the car was ditched.
Analysis of their normal phones showed that neither were used at the time of the attack or in the lead up to it.
