A UK tourist has died while in the sea during a holiday in Greece. The 64-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the sea at the beach resort of Alykanas, Zante on Friday.
Coastguards and an ambulance were called to the scene by people on the beach at 9.15am local time. The man was taken to Zakynthos General Hospital, but he could not be saved
Local news outlet ERT Zakynthos says an investigation is being carried out by the Port Authority of Zakynthos.
Zante, also known as Zakynthos, is a Greek island located in the Ionian Sea. It is the third-largest of the Ionian Islands and is a popular tourist destination. Zante is known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and picturesque landscapes.
In addition to its natural beauty, Zante is famous for its loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). The island's sandy beaches are nesting sites for these endangered turtles, and conservation efforts are in place to protect their habitats.
