Mystery surrounds the disappearance of a man who was found eight years after he had gone missing at the age of 17.
Rudy Farias, now 25, had been missing since March 2015. He was found unresponsive outside a church in southeast Houston, Texas, with cuts, bruises, and blood in his hair.
Houston Police Department said they were able to contact his family thanks to an item with a family member's identification that he had on him. He is now recovering in a hospital.
Rudy disappeared in March 2015 while walking his dogs near Tidwell and Park Drive in northwest Houston. He was then 17 years old and a search was initiated to determine his whereabouts.
Two years later, in 2017, Rudy's mother had spoken to the press and expressed concern for her safety. She said at the time that she suspected something suspicious about her son's disappearance.
In September 2018, Rudy's family reported seeing him living behind a family's home. However, emergency responders that rushed to the scene were not able to locate him.
Last Thursday, June 29, Rudy was found outside a church in southeast Houston by a caller who notified the authorities.
The Houston Fire Department and police responded to the call and found Rudy with cuts, bruises, and blood in his hair. Rudy was signed into the care of his mother, declining immediate medical treatment.
Rudy's mother shared pictures of him in a hospital bed and expressed the belief that he was abused and beaten during his disappearance.
She told ABC13 that he only said a few words and curled into a featal position when they tried to talk to him.
An investigation with the Houston Police Department was scheduled for Wednesday to determine Rudy's whereabouts during his disappearance. The police did not explain the delay in speaking with Rudy.
