A Sutton in Ashfield resident has been fined £300 for spitting on shop windows. In September 2022, a complaint was made to Ashfield District Council’s Community Team about the spitting incidents in Outram Street, which have been labelled "disgusting."
The case was investigated by a Community Protection Officer who reviewed CCTV footage, resulting in a male being identified and formally interviewed. After this, it was clear that the male was responsible for the spitting, and he received four fixed penalty notices of £75 for the separate offences.
These fines have now been paid. Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, Executive Member for Community Safety and Crime Reduction said, “This is a positive outcome for retailers who were quite rightly furious with the culprit’s behaviour.
