Man Faces 775 Further Charges Over Alleged Illegal Recordings In Melb Hospital Toilets

Victoria Police say they will lay hundreds of extra charges against a man accused of secretly recording staff in bathrooms at three major Melbourne hospitals.

The force has confirmed it will file 775 further charges as part of an ongoing investigation into an illegal recording device allegedly found at hospital sites in Melbourne.

Detectives from the Mernda Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team are set to lay the additional charges against the 27-year-old man today.

Police allege a mobile phone was used as a recording device in staff toilets at Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, targeting staff-only facilities rather than public areas.

The fresh charges cover alleged stalking, the production of intimate images and the installation of an optical surveillance device.

Police said the 775 additional charges are in addition to 133 charges laid in July and August this year, bringing the total number of charges in the case to 908.

Victoria Police have indicated they do not expect to identify further alleged victims, however the investigation is still ongoing, and police have said further updates will be provided when appropriate as the matter progresses.

Anyone who may have information that could assist investigators has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersvic.com.au.
