A man has been electrocuted by a pylon close to the M60 motorway, police say.
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed the man is currently in a serious condition.
A spokesperson for the National Grid told The Mirror they had received reports of a man falling from a pylon in the Didsbury area.
A junction of the motorway - which orbits Manchester - has been closed to the public and motorists are being asked to avoid the area, Manchester Evening News reports.
A nearby resident said they heard a "massive bang" at around 5.30pm this evening.
A large police cordon is currently in place around a wooded area beside the carriageway.
A forensics team in an unmarked vehicle pulled up to the scene a short while after detectives and the electric board were seen inspecting the pylon by torchlight.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said they sent two fire engines to the scene for around 90 minutes at 5.40pm this evening.
They said: “At around 5:40pm this evening (Wednesday 16 March), we were called to a police incident at Princess Parkway, Manchester.
“Two fire engines from Moss Side and Stretford fire stations attended the scene and supported colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service.
“Firefighters were detained for approximately one hour and a half.”
The force tweeted: “Road closure southbound at the junction of Palatine Road, Princess Parkway.
“This is in relation to a report of a man having been electrocuted by a pylon close to the M60.
“The road has been closed as a precaution. The public are asked to avoid the area."
Footage from the scene shows significant congestion piling up near the closure.
Motorists were having to drive past the accident single file, the clip shows.
The National Grid operates the network of power stations and pylons that send electricity into British homes.
A spokesperson from National Grid said: “We have received reports of a person having fallen from a pylon in the Didsbury area.
"Emergency services are on site and leading the response. Power supplies are not affected.”
