Investigations are underway after a contractor was reportedly electrocuted at a Cardiff bar. It is understood the 33-year-old man went into cardiac arrest at around 6.30pm on June 1 in O'Neill's on St Mary Street. He was resuscitated after a passer-by performed CPR and paramedics used a defibrillator to deliver three electric shocks, WalesOnline understands.
The audio-visual specialist, who had been contracted to work on lighting at the bar, was reportedly taken to hospital in a critical condition. It is understood he was placed on life support but as of June 7 he was out of intensive care and recovering on a ward.
Cardiff Council has confirmed it is looking into the incident to determine whether a health and safety offence took place. Its spokesman said: "Officers from Shared Regulatory Services are aware of the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the injury."
A spokeswoman for O’Neill’s said: “Out of respect for their privacy we can’t comment on matters related to individuals. However, we can confirm that following an incident on Thursday, June 1, emergency services attended our business, provided support and carried out safety checks to enable us to resume trading. Our business was cleared to open as usual on Saturday and normal operations have resumed, but in line with good safety practice, we will be conducting an internal incident review.” For the latest Cardiff news, sign up to our newsletter
