Man dies in police custody in Brisbane

A 68-year-old man has died in custody in Brisbane on Tuesday night.

The man was arrested at a home in Fortitude Valley about 7pm on alleged drug offences.

Police said he was found unresponsive in the police vehicle when they arrived at the Brisbane City Watchhouse  a short time later.

Officers gave first aid and paramedics also attended, but he could not be revived, police said.

Police said the man was not First Nations.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating his death and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
