Man dies as van crashes into tree

A man has died after a van crashed into a tree.

A white Peugeot van collided with a tree on Friday (February 4).

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene.

The male driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger was taken to hospital.

Police said on Friday that the passenger's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The family of the driver and the passenger have been informed and full support is being provided.

The collision happened on the A444 near Atterton, Leicestershire.

Police were called to the incident at 3.31pm on Friday and the crash happened near the junction with Sibson Road.

Road closures were in place while enquiries were carried out at the scene.

Detective Constable Maggie Langton, of Leicestershire Police, said: “We are carrying out full enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the collision in which a man has sadly lost his life.

“We are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to the collision, or who saw the vehicle involved prior to the collision, to make contact with us.

"Anyone with any dashcam footage from the area is also urged to check this and get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting incident 443 of February 4.
