Man dies after getting into difficulty at Scots loch as emergency services race to scene

A man has died after getting into difficulty at a Scots loch.

Emergency services scrambled to Kirbister Loch, near Orphir in Orkney, after the alarm was raised at around 1pm on Wednesday, May 11.

A 56-year-old man was removed from the water but sadly, he died at the scene.

Officers have confirmed that his next of kin has been made aware of the tragic death.

Cops say their enquiries into establishing the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1pm on Wednesday, May 11, officers were called to a report of a 56-year-old man having got into difficulty in Kirbister Loch, near to Orphir, Orkney.

"Emergency services attended and the man was removed from the water, however, died at the scene.

"His next of kin has been made aware.

"Enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
