Man dies after boating incident near Carrickfergus coast

A man has died after a boating incident in Co Antrim on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services remain at the scene at Carrickfergus marina tonight. The rescue operation started near Greenisland shortly after 3pm and invovled two coastguard teams from the RNLI and Lagan Search and Rescue.

The BBC has reported that two people were taken from the water after a boat had began to sink prompting a mayday call.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they dispatched an Emergency Crew to the scene, alongside the Air Ambulance team. A cordon has been in place in the area for several hours, with PSNI officers also in attendance.
