Man dies after being Tasered by police after they were called to a 'disturbance'

A man has died after a Taser was deployed by police during a disturbance.

Police were called to the incident at an address in Braintree, Essex, on Monday (November 21) at around 11.20am.

Officers spoke to people at the scene to determine the cause of the disturbance and protect people present.

During a confrontation with a man at the location, officers deployed a taser.

The man was then reported to have been taken unwell, and tragically died at the scene despite efforts from the emergency services, reports Essex Live.

However, a mandatory referral by Essex Police was made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), who have confirmed they will be investigating the officers' actions at the scene.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at Clockhouse Way, Braintree, at around 11.20am on Monday, November 21.

"They responded quickly and spoke with people on their arrival to establish the cause of the disturbance and to protect those present. During their engagement with a man at the location they had been called to in Clockhouse Way, a taser was deployed.

"The man was reported to have been taken unwell. Despite the work of an ambulance crew and police officers, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1pm.

"We have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is appropriate in all such cases and the IOPC has confirmed that it will investigate the incident."
