A man has been detained in connection with an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Florida. According to local State Attorney David Aronberg, the suspect remained silent when apprehended by law enforcement.
Aronberg stated that the suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh by three law enforcement sources, did not speak to officers and appeared calm during the arrest. Aronberg noted that the suspect had a 'rap sheet,' indicating prior interactions with law enforcement.
Describing the incident as 'another too close for comfort incident,' Aronberg commended the US Secret Service for swiftly identifying the alleged shooter and taking action. He praised the Secret Service for their quick response in firing shots at the suspect, who was seen with a dangerous weapon poking through a fence.
'If you're Secret Service, it really is an act of heroism to see a person with this dangerous weapon,' Aronberg said. 'It was really a great job by Secret Service to fire the first shot.'
