Man denies causing Nottingham BMW owner's death by dangerous driving

A man has appeared in court after the death of a driver from Nottingham. Oliver Dolici, from Nottingham, died when his red BMW and a grey Mercedes collided on the A512 Ashby Road in Loughborough on May 17 2020.

The 34-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after his car hit a lamppost, a wall and five parked cars before overturning. A Loughborough man has denied causing death by dangerous driving in the horror crash, reports the Leicester Mercury.

Catalin Barladeanu, of Herbert Street, Loughborough, appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Monday (April 4) and denied the charge - but admitted causing death by careless driving. The 24 year old was granted bail and is due to appear back in court on January 9 2023 to stand trial.

Leicestershire Police said Mr Dolici’s car was travelling towards the town centre when it left the road, shortly after midnight. After a 21 month long investigation, the force announced in February that Barladeanu was charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving.

A spokesperson for the force said at the time: "The charge relates to a collision on Ashby Road (A512), in Loughborough, on May 17, 2020, involving a red BMW and a grey Mercedes. The driver of the BMW, 34-year-old Oliver Dolici, died at the scene."
