A man has died and a woman is in a critical condition after the pair were found with gunshot wounds in a home in Darwin's northern suburbs.
The man and the woman were in a domestic relationship, and others were at the home when the shooting occurred.
NT Police said it was too early to determine whether the incident was domestic violence related, although they did not anticipate the need to make any arrests.
Police were called to the Millner home at 6.30pm on Tuesday after reports of gunshots.
The 35-year-old male died at the scene while the 38-year-old woman underwent surgery on Tuesday night.
"The female was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition intensive care unit," NT Police Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said on Wednesday.
Police would not confirm whether domestic violence-related incidents had been reported between the pair in the past or whether the woman was on the Family Safety Framework.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the incident was concerning and tragic.
"I need to allow the processes to take place and I don't want to interrupt anything," she said on Wednesday.
"But more broadly, we know domestic and family violence is a huge issue in the territory."
A 63-year-old man also died from gunshot wounds on Tuesday evening in Darwin.
Police said the two shootings were unrelated and there was no risk to the public.
