A man has died and two others are in custody after a daylight shooting on a suburban street in Sydney.

Police were called to Carinya Street, Blacktown, at about 11.50am on Friday after reports of a public place shooting.

Supt Brendan Gorman, Blacktown Police Area Commander, told the media the man suffered gunshot wounds.

“We located a man in his early 20s with gunshot wounds to his neck, chest, and leg,” he said.

“Ambulance, paramedics, and police attempted first aid at the scene. However, he passed away at the scene.”

Police attempted to stop a Mazda utility seen leaving the scene with one person in their teens and one in their early 20s.

“That pursuit lasted for approximately five minutes and ended with a short crash, and the pursuit was terminated,“ Gorman said.

The pursuit ended after the vehicle crashed on Kildare Road. The two occupants ran from the scene and were arrested a short time later. They have both been taken to Blacktown police station. No charges have been laid.

Police have established a crime scene and begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Gorman said the homicide squad is assisting Blacktown police area command detectives with the investigation. Although there is no ongoing threat to the public, members of the public are being told to avoid Blacktown CBD.

“At this stage, we don’t believe there are any other people that we’re looking for,” he said.

“We’re actively patrolling [the area]. We’ve got a number of police out at all times, ensuring the safety of the community,” he said.

“We encourage people to notify police of any suspects, and we’ll investigate anything to do with it.”
