An incident involving Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff’s US Secret Service protective detail occurred on Tuesday in New York City. A man approached two United States Secret Service vehicles parked in lower Manhattan and caused damage to the rear license plate area of both vehicles without provocation, according to USSS spokesperson James Byrne.
The man was detained by the USSS, and New York authorities took him into police custody. Fortunately, no protectee was in danger during the incident, as confirmed by Byrne.
Spokespeople for the vice president and second gentleman have not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. This incident comes at a time of increased scrutiny for the Secret Service following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump and the recent resignation of the agency’s director, Kimberly Cheatle.
This is not the first time a USSS protectee’s vehicle has been involved in an incident. In November of last year, a USSS agent on President Joe Biden’s granddaughter Naomi Biden’s security detail fired shots at individuals attempting to break into a US government vehicle in Georgetown.
