A Pakistani business owner has been convicted in the US for attempting to hire hitmen to assassinate an American politician, in a case that highlighted alleged Iran-backed plotting on US soil.
Asif Merchant admitted in a US court that he sought to initiate the assassination during the 2024 presidential campaign. However, American investigators swiftly disrupted the plot before it could proceed, amidst ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
